Considering weight loss injections?
Recent media excitement has raised awareness about GPs becoming involved in prescribing injections such as Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) for obesity.
At Kingston Health Centre we are setting up a service in collaboration with NHS SW London. This is a programme that will roll out over the next few years, starting with patients assessed as having the highest clinical need. This means that injectables will not be immediately available to all patients who are eligible or interested in starting.
What do you need to know?
Over the next few months, we will be contacting patients who fulfil the following criteria to discuss treatment.
Body Mass Index (BMI) 40 or higher as well as 4 out of the following 5 conditions
- Hypertension
- Cardiovascular disease
- Dyslipidaemia
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Obstructive sleep apnoea
These criteria are set nationally and there is no flexibility for us to prescribe to other patients. There is further information here for this who are currently not eligible.

What else can I do?
Start with free local support. Kingston Borough has a range of free and low-cost programmes that can help you.
Considering Private Treatment?
People choose to access injectables through private clinics or online pharmacies. At Kingston Health Centre we cannot manage or monitor your treatment in this situation. If you are having problems, you should initially contact your provider. Do let us know what medication you are taking because there are potential interactions, such as with contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy and this helps us to prescribe your other medicines more safely.
